I’ve been on holiday for the last week and a bit which accounts for my lack of posts so apologies about that! I swear that before my next holiday I will work out how to do scheduled posts!

I want to recommend a couple of the books that I read on holiday though which were excellent

The Year of the Flood by Margaret Atwood – I’ve been a massive fan of Atwood since reading The Handmaids Tale which is an AMAZING book that you should read immediately if you haven’t already. The Year of the Flood is a really interesting book set in the ruins of a society that has been all but wiped out by a terrible virus.

While it isn’t on the level for me of the Handmaids Tale I still really enjoyed this book, partly because I LOVE any books, tv shows or movies that deal with our post-apocalyptic future.

The Help by Kathryn Stockett – I got this book to read on holiday as well because it had awesome reviews (536 with a rating of 5 stars!) so I thought ‘how could it not be good?’. The Help is set in the early 60s in the deep south of America and focuses on the experiences of three women; two black and one white.

I really enjoyed The Help although at first it seemed to me that it might be a little contrived and schlockey and felt a little uncomfortable with the white writers use of black slang – as I read it though that perception disappeared. It’s a really enjoyable, moving and well-written book.

A movie is coming out this year (although it seems from the trailer that it might have been somewhat rom-commed)

Later on I’ll be sharing the vanilla and coconut cupcakes that I baked last night! They may be, nay I proclaim that they ARE …….. the BEST CUPCAKES I’VE EVER MADE!
