A slight change of pace today so bear with me! Today is the funeral of my lovely lovely Grandad. He died on June 1st, just a few days after we’d been sitting in his garden in the sunshine, talking about the plants and vegetables he was growing.
Losing him so suddenly reminded me how easy it is to take things for granted in your life. We assume loved ones will be there forever, not wanting to face the possibility of ever losing them.
So, the next time you see your parents or best friend, instead of making small talk, make real talk! Ask them the things you’ve always wondered about and thought there would be time to ask
x Kerry
Condolences to you and your family.
Sorry to hear you’ve lost your Grandad. What a lovely last memory of him to have
Real talk is definitely important. Sometimes everyone just needs to slow down and listen
Thank you 🙂 Definitely – I feel like we spend so much time talking about superficial things and a lot less about what really matters
Oh Kerry, I am so sorry to hear about your grandfather. You must be sad. Granddads are very special indeed, I know all about it. Mine passed away so many years ago yet I think of him all the time. He was the baker who taught me about hot cross buns and pizza. I loved what you wrote, the line ‘instead of making small talk, make real talk,’ is as good and sweet as it gets. Again, I am sorry.
Aw, thank you Susannah 🙂 I’m sure I will think about him all the time too, especially whenever I see a beautiful garden or hear birds singing. But I try to look at the positive and remember how many years I had him for too.
thats lovely Kerry, xxxxx
