1. My pretty new necklace

I went to London last week for work – stuff, but found time to squeeze in a little shopping at St Pancras! I popped into Oliver Bonas, a shop that they only have in the south-east which sells cute dresses, jewellery, and also home stuff, and picked up this pretty silver necklace of a bird in flight. What do you think?

2. Hummingbird Bakery cupcakes!

So on the same trip I found time to squeeze in a visit to the Hummingbird Bakery (priorities are important!). I sampled a black bottom cupcake on the recommendation of the girls in the cafe, plus a red velvet and a classic vanilla. Here’s what I thought of them

Black Bottom – £2.50 – This was a very chocolatey cupcake with delicious cream cheese frosting and a cheesecake core. The chocolate was delicious but a little too dark and intense for me. I really liked the cheesecake core though!

Red Velvet – £2.65 – I’ve tried the recipe for red velvet cupcakes from the Hummingbird Bakery book a few times but I’ve never come close to the perfection of the real thing – this cupcake was AMAZING. Perfect, gorgeous frosting and beautifully light red velvet cake. Yum! Worth every penny.

Classic vanilla – £2.00 – I chose a yellow cake and found it disappointing – the butter frosting had a greasy smell/taste about it – I’m not sure why that would happen but it wasn’t very nice and I ended up throwing the cupcake away.

3. Supporting British farmers

It’s tough being a British farmer these days so I feel like its important to do whatever we can to help. As well as going for British-grown where you can (such as by buying Silver Spoon caster sugar over the supermarket alternative), support dairy farmers by not buying milk from these supermarkets

4. Ultimate Park Fitness

If the name sounds scary, that’s because it is! A few weeks ago I was persuaded to purchase a groupon offer for 10 ultimate fitness sessions and I’ve been to two sessions so far. While they’re more difficult than probably anything I’ve ever tried before (in that I’ve always relied on myself for motivation before rather than having someone there to push me on), the whole experience is also inspiring – it makes you realise that you are capable of things that you never thought possible – like carrying (or being carried by!) adult people around!

5. Summer salads

The past week the weather has finally warmed up in the UK, and I’ve actually gotten to that happy point where I want to eat healthy food all the time. Yea! So I’ve been eating lots of salads – right now I’m loving a combo featuring local lettuce, black olives, vine ripened or cherry tomatoes, smoked salmon, feta cheese and chopped pepper with olive oil, lemon juice and salt and pepper.

I even made a (whisper it!) healthy cake this past weekend which I’ll share with you soon!
